Sharon Locke is an interdisciplinary artist. Her artwork includes clay, bronze, copper and steel sculptures / extensive figure drawing in mixed mediums / photography / printmaking / collage / installation art and short video documentary.
Locke received a BA in Sociology – University of Colorado / BFA in Sculpture – NY State Suny College of Brockport / MFA in Interdisciplinary Art – Goddard College – Vermont / Ph.d – (Creativity Certificate) Creative Studies – Saybrook University – CA
Awarded a one-year scholarship to study painting at Leo Martchuz School of Fine Art/Aix en Provence, France and a one-year fellowship to study bronze casting the Mariani Fondaria Artistica/ Pietrasanta, Italy.
Awarded 2 Decentralization Grants from the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester in 2013 and 2014.
“Survivors of Sexual Assault” an installation and “Survivors of Sexual Assault”, a short documentary.
Locke received 2 individual artist’s grants from NYSCA ( New York State Council of Art) in 1999 and 2000 for the installation “Sacred Space” and the installation “Female Survivors of Sexual Abuse”.
She was awarded 5 artists grants, 1996 – 2008, from the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester for photography exploration, videography exploration, forging and fabrication in steel, forging and fabrication in copper and silversmithing.
Locke’s artwork can be found in national and international collections.
She resides in Rochester, NY and Berkeley, CA.
